Gn 4800 Base with Gn 2000 Headset Wideband Hi Fi Dual Use Review

I purchased this online from Officemax on a closeout. I was really interested in this since I use Vonage VOIP. My wireless handset is OK but since I sit by the computer most of the day, I wanted a better headset that would filter some of the ambient noises.
When I received the headset, I immediately set it up on my Macbook Pro. With iTunes, the Stereo was fair quality (not the best) but that doesn't matter too much since I listen to talk radio most of the day. The headset is lacking in bass, but again, not an issue with me. I installed the Vonage Companion app and it worked just fine. I made some calls with it and the line quality/voice quality was MUCH better than using my standard hand set. One thing I noticed immediately was I could actually hear people who were using hands free kits while they were driving. This has always been an issue. My wife drives all day and she uses a bluetooth hands free kit. I never could have a good conversation with her because the hands free on her side was so cr@ppy. She always sounded like she was in a well. The GN 4800 handset improved that issue to where I could actually have a conversation without getting frustrated and straining to hear her.
I tested the handset with iChat. Again, a fantastic improvement over using the built in mic and speakers. My buddy even noted that he could he me with improved quality.
Overall I am very pleased with this product. While I purchased this for $50.00, even at $75.00-$100.00 it's worth the money in my experience.
I especially like the fact that I can hear calls without a lot of the ambient noise I was accustomed to.
The only con I have for this is the bass. I'd love to hear more base while listening to music but this isn't a deal killer for what I need this for.

To my surprise, this really didn't take long to get working. I installed the card prior to installing Verizons Broadband software, but after a couple restarts and removing the broadband card and reinserting it, XP finally was able to recognize the card. Install your broadband providers software before attaching the adapter card to your mother board, and it should be a breeze. Wait for the computer to start up before inserting the PCMCIA card into the adapter.

Apple iPod Lanyard Headphones for iPod nano 1G Review

I really like this lanyard alot.It solves 2 prolems I've always had with iPods... wire clutter and where to put the buds if I have to take them out of my ears.

There's no hanging cables tangling up or getting caught on things... everything is enclosed in the cord.The earphones protrude through the lanyard cord near the back of the neck, and when out of the ear, just hang, but with a short enough cable they don't get tangled up.

It's attached to the nano through the 30 pin connection on the bottom, and the headphone jack.I was concerned when I saw that it might not be a secure enough connection and the nano might become detached, but it's very strong and most likely won't come off under most circumstances.

The sound is okay.As far as I can tell, they use the same components for the buds as the ones provided with the nano.I know there are headphone elitists out there who turn their nose up at the Apple headphones, but they are actually pretty decent sounding for the money.I don't even consider other headphones now for my nano, because these make everything so convenient.

But If another manufacturer came out with a competing product that sounded better, I'd strongly consider it if it weren't too much more expensive.Especially if it were black... a pet peeve of mine... if Apple is making black iPods now, they should make accessories in black as well.And I hate the conspicuous white buds in my ears.

One other thing that would make this product better is a pass through headphone jack on the lanyard connector.So the lanyard wouldn't need to be removed if one wanted to hook it up to a stereo, or play something for somebody else (so essentially so 2 people could listen at a time).But that's a minor quibble.

So, if you don't mind the Apple headphone sound, I'd recommend the nano lanyard headphones in a second.

Adesso 2.4 GHZ WIRELESS SLIMTOUCH TOUCHPAD MINI KEYBOARD SILVER W/BLACK KEYS ( WKB-4000US ) Review

This unit will deliver silky smooth operation consistently if you follow these tips.

1. Don't forget to hit a key twice (recommend SHIFT) to wake it up.

2. If you are dropping keys or have choppy mouse movements:
A. Try swapping with known good batteries.
B. Reposition the USB adapter. I got much better range by using an USB extension cable to relocate the adapter. Just moving the adapter six inches away from the computer case made all the difference. It eliminated keyboard dead zones.
C. Avoid wireless conflicts between the keyboard and wireless router by locking your router to a different wireless channel. Try channel 11. I found lower channels would conflict with the unit. Conflict issue is indicated by choppy mouse movements coinciding with wireless activity. Possibly wireless phones or microwaves could interfere too.
D. Switch wireless router's operating modes away from 802.11b. Try 802.11g-only or 802.11n-only if possible. I was able to more channels wireless router channels when I changed modes.
E. If shortcut keys ( Alt- ) aren't working, it's because num-lock is on. I prefer to set the BIOS to turn off num-lock when booting.
F. 802.11 wireless activity will interfere with operation. Look for ways to reduce 802.11 activity.
G. Best to have a clear line of sight between keyboard and USB adapter. A couch's back or a body can greatly weaken the signal.

3. If the unit is dead, you may have accidentally pushed the USB adapter's tiny "sw" button. It's used to pair with your keyboard. Re-pair by pushing sw again and pressing keyboard's FN key within 15 seconds.

Thanks to the myriad of reviews, product works exactly as expected. Yes, it works well with Vista without drivers. Yes, it makes a great HTPC wireless keyboard. Yes, it has a flimsy feel. Yes, its a bit too expensive and needs competition.

I'm using a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Router. Excellent device. Recommended.

Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Mac/Windows Review

I have been using this mouse for almost a month now and I am very satisfied with it. It is smaller than most mice, but fits snuggly in my hand, considering that I have big hands. It is very responsive (sometimes too responsive) and the back button and mouse wheel complement its functionality. The battery indicator is another great plus, cause at least you can get a warning when you are running low; although it is very energy-efficient, I'm still using the packed standard AAA batteries with an average of 6-7 hours of daily use. And the power switch is also great for saving energy.

To sum up, Pros:
- Excellent Microsoft design (esthetical, ergonomical)
- Great price
- Very responsive (it's laser, not optical)
- Great battery life (I'll let you know on the comments when the first pair of batteries run out. I already have a rechargeable pair on stand-by).
- Instant pairing with bluetooth enabled PC's (I did not try it on a Mac)
- Back button functionality
- Power switch lets you turn it off when not in use to save battery, and you just turn it on and in a couple of seconds it reconnects (this has been a life-saver since I walk away from my desk very often, and I would not like that some envious co-worker "borrowed" it for his home, and it fits quite nicely on my shirt or pants pocket)
- It glides very smoothly on almost any surface (even on my bed sheets)
- It comes with a nice carry-bag.

Cons:
- It has dropped the connection about 5 or 6 times during the time I have been using it, but it reconnects after turning on and off again. Kind of annoying.
- I wish it had a forward buttong as well.
- It is somethimes too responsive, depending on the surface you wear it on. I fixed this by tweaking the mouse sensitivity on the Windows mouse settings.

I recommend this bluetooth mouse.

UPDATE (2/23/08): Well, the battery indicator is going red now (3 months after I started using it), but, if I could, I would downgrade my rating to 3 stars because of the following: The power switch broke like a week ago (the damn thing kinda got loose of it's place and still moves, but it doesn't change the power state). I tried going DIY and tried fixing it myself, but ended up getting it worse, although I managed the leave the power on. This means poor craftsmanship from Microsoft, because I consider I did not misused the mouse. I now can't turn the mouse off, so I have to remove the batteries every time I don't use it. This resulted on casting the mouse aside and leaving it just for special occasions (long meetings or surfing @ home).

I still consider the mouse is good, but this has negatively changed my opinion on Microsoft hardware (don't even get me started on their SW).

This unit works extremely well as a Skype phone.I have not noticed any range problems when using it throughout my home.It conveniently recharges through any mini-USB cable, so no wall-warts or other cords are required. Sound quality is good, no better or worse than most cordless handsets. The icons on the blue-backlit screen are intuitive. Integration with the Mac Skype client is very good.Scrolling through the contacts on the phone will also scroll them on the Mac client at the same time. The ringtone is customizable, but there is no way to adjust it's volume as far as I could find. The unit is comfortable to handle and appears well made.
