IPEVO TR-10 Review

Overall: pretty compact, easy to use, good voice quality, good recording quality.

I bought this because I'm always on the road, and I wanted to add more interviews to my podcast. It's just super hard to get a recording software - and this comes with free recording software.

I also found out that this can be plug and play for other sofware - so I've used it to conference call with the company's Xlite (without the driver). So without the driver, you get the speakerphone and microphone; with the driver, you get to use the accept call/decline call buttons, the iChat launch button, the mute button, and the record/stop recording buttons.

The recording software is not the most beautiful thing you've ever seen - the interface is a no-frills deal, but it does what it's set out to do: you push the button, and start recording your conversation. Then it's all stored on your HD. I record mine in mp4 so I can edit in GarageBand before podcasting.

So all in all, it's a pretty nifty tool.

IPEVO FREE.2 USB Handset for SKYPE with LCD Screen (White) Review

This phone works very well for apple computers. It is also about the size of a candy bar and is great for travel.I like the LCD model so that you can dial a number without using the computer (although long names don't show up entirely on the screen). There may be better options but for traveling with a macintosh it has worked very well.

IPEVO FREE.2 USB Handset for SKYPE with LCD Screen (Black) Review

Hooking up this handset with my intel imac is a no-brainer!

I downloaded the driver from ipevo [...] and in a few miniutes I could start talking with my dad (who's in another country thousands of miles away) through the internet!

I've been using it for about two months and I think this is the best usb handset in the market. It's got echo cancellation so the voice quality is outstanding.

The design is super slick, totally different from those cheap-design ones sold on ebxy. There's a small lcd screen on the handset, it comes in extremely handy when you want to call somebody, and if you are a lazy bone like I am, all you need to do just to browse the contact list through the lcd screen and hit the "call" button without even touching your computer.

By the way, I tested it with my ubuntu linux machine, it worked right off the bat. Oh well, of course those buttons don't work because there's no drivers. But at least it can techincally work as a combination of mic + earphone for any voip soft phones.

For those who are in the market for a usb handset, I highly recommend this one.

Skype Certified USB Phone Free-1 (Black Sharing Pack) Review

When I moved to the US, I had to find a way to talk to the family back in France.

Phone cards are cheaper, but the quality of the voice is soooo random... I started using Skype.

Same issue as the previous reviewer: my neck got tired of trying to get close to the computer mic. And same here, I have a mac and a PC, and don't want to pay $100 for a usb phone...

At first, I was stupid enough to buy a wireless phone. Big mistake: Skype does NOT do well with wireless at all. I should've read the reviews: wireless Skype phones mean dropped calls every 2 minutes.

Then I stumbled upon this package - decided to get one for me, and one for my mom.

That was the best decision: the voice quality is hard to reproduce. In fact, it's 6 times better than a regular phone, which is why I'm happy my mom and I both have one. This way, we get the full voice experience of what Skype has to offer. The noise cancelation is flawless (and God knows I've called from noisy cafes), and the clarity of voices is truly incredible.

Conclusion: a must-have for Skype.

Ipevo TRIO USB Spekerphone (Grey) - Skype Certified USB VOIP Internet IP Phone Review

This is a 3 in 1 deal for podcasting, conferencing and talking.

Cute little design (I thought it looked like a beer opener at first!), decent voice quality.

The IPEVO skype conference phone allows you to switch from conferencing to headset with one button, which I have found invaluable for settings where I was in a conference with 3 people and wanted to have a couple of words with the other person when there was too much background noise.
The headset part is wideband, with unparalleled voice quality on Skype. Probably the best sound I've heard out there, and better than the Polycom Communicator.
For the speakerphone/conference part, it's still a notch under the communicator, because there is sometimes a little echo cancelation if you talk to close to the mic, or if the skype connection isn't optimal. For that, this is not a perfect product... but then, it's cheaper than the communicator, so it still carries its weight for its price.
It also redeems itself by offering full duplex - that means, if you and I talk at the same time, you don't hear yourself. Or, if I'm running music from my computer and it comes out on this conference phone, then we talk over skype, you don't hear the music... and that's pretty cool.
I've also used this on my mac for podcasting. The only thing there is that you have to go through the initial steps of setting this as you mic and speaker, instead of the default in there. Other than that, I've found that I can use this to listen to podcast, or play music from itunes or any other music program.

Conclusion: a good value with sturdy design.

IPEVO FR-33.2 Skype USB Handset with LCD- Black Review

This handset, although a lot smaller than I had thought, is a great addition to my laptop. When I got it in the mail, all I had to do was put in the cd, install the software, plug in the phone, fix the default audio problem (which isn't hard), and I was good to go. This handset has great sound quality, and the only issues I have are that the internet connection I have, the bandwidth is shared with a very large amount of people, so there is no flaw with the phone. It's an overall great device, I just notice that the menus dont seem to work, so I have to select who I'm calling on skype on the computer, then hit the call button on the handset.

A Skype handset for making Skype calls
To many peopleSkype is a piece of software that runs on a computerwhich makes Internet phone calls appear rather abstract and unfamiliar. IPEVO CDPU-06IP-BLK FR-33.2 Skype USB Handset with LCD Review

I started using Skype when I moved 6,000 miles away from home. Talking from my laptop is cool, but I developed a real bad neck tension from instinctively moving my mouth closer to the microphone. Also when I'm in a cafe, where it's busy in the background and there's a bunch of strangers listening in, I can't really make the phone calls. So I decided I'd shop for a USB phone.

I stumbled upon the Free1 on a review of the Skype journal. The reviewer said this best-selling USB phone gave the user a full Skype experience, meaning better voice quality than a regular telephone. I also explored the wireless phones. I tried one, the linksys, but phone calls kept getting dropped. After reading reviews on cordless/wireless phones for Skype, I found out that Skype just doesn't support wireless, so you shouldn't waste $100 on them.

I got this phone and was truly amazed. It's true, when you make Skype to Skype phone, the voice quality is crystal clear, and much better than using a phone card on a regular telephone. The phone itself is wideband, which means it's 6 times clearer than a good'olde rotary phone. Better than my cellphone, too.

I ended up liking it so much I bought another one a few weeks ago for my sister, so that we, too, could talk for free (she's so cheap she doesn't even have a cell phone...). Love it! Easy to use, great voice quality.

Oh, and bonus: mac compatible.

Philips VOIP 080 Skype VOIP Travel Phone Review

This phone has excellent sound quality compare to other Skype phones I've tested. So far, the voice quality for all the Wi-Fi Skype phones from Belkin, Linksys, and Netgear are mediocre. The dual mode models (ones that won't need a PC) offer better quality but still on the pricey side. This USB phone hits the perfect spot in terms of having great sound quality and low price.

Currently it only supports XP/2000 with a newly released Vista driver. No MAC support. Also, buyers beware of the VOIP0801B driver software and Skype version compatibility issue. I installed older version of Skype v2.5.0.122 with VOIP080 Phone Driver v3.1.0.0 that came with the CD. Those are guaranteed to work with each other by Philips. On their support page, they mentioned the latest driver VOIP0801B v3.5.4.0 for XP currently only supports up to Skype v3.6.0.xxx. So check for compatibility status before you decide to upgrade your Skype software or phone driver.

Usability is simple and straightforward. First make sure you've logged into your Skype account and activated the driver software. Pressing the center "S" button on the silver wheel pad will make Skype pops up. Keep pressing "S" allows you to toggle between Contacts, Dial, and History tabs. Hitting Up/Down arrows to select phone numbers within Contacts or History. You can also just simply dial the number like you would for a regular phone. Press "talk" to make the call and "off" to hang up. Press and hold "off" to minimize Skype when you're done.

The earpiece and microphone volume may be adjusted through driver software. Earpiece volume is also adjustable during a call using up/down keys. There are 8 different ringer tones to choose from. Volume for ringer can be set to off/low/high.

It looks very nice and sleek on the outside. The casing was well-designed with extra spacing around the sides for USB cable retraction. Comes with a phone stand as seen in the picture. Also includes a black travel holster that protects your phone on the go. Overall, this is an excellent USB VoIP handset from Philips...definitely one of the best for Skype!

As of today, 02-24-2009, VOIP080 Phone Driver 3.5.4.0 is NOT fully compatible with Skype version 4.0.0.206. After upgrading Skype from version 3.8.0.xxx to version 4, the Up/Down/Talk/Off buttons and center "Skype" button failed to work. Pressing the "Off" button will highlight the "Call phones" tab in Skype and I can still using numerical pad to dial a number. However, everything else such as calling/hanging-up or shifting through your Contacts requires the use of mouse and keyboard. I can still talk using this phone after a call has made through, but navigating through Skype version 4 is now a pain.
