Uniden TCX805 Accessory Handset For One- or Two-Line Systems (Silver/Black) Review

I bought 3 of these handsets to work with the new Uniden TRU8866 Expandable Phone System I bought from Amazon too.

I bought the TCX805 handset because the TCX860 handset was not available from Amazon at the time.The TCX860 is the handset that Uniden intended to be the matched expansions to the TRU8866.

I could have bought a like-new TCX860 handset directly from Uniden.

My only concern about the TCX805 was that it would not color match the TRU8866, but the Amazon picture of the TCX805 showed it to match the TCX860, and the description explicitly says "black".

After using the handsets for several months, I can say that the TCX805 functions the same as the TCX860.The only difference is that it does not have the same face plate.The TCX805 has a bright silver face plate, and the TCX860 has a dark smoke grey face plate.

Amazon's picture of the TCX860 is accurate, but the picture of the TCX805 is inaccurate.

I've attached a picture of the two handsets together.The TCX860 is on the left, and the TCX805 is on the right.

Overall, I've been happy with the functionality and looks of the phone.And, truly, the different face plates haven't been as big a deal as I thought since none of my handsets sit together - so it's hard to notice the different colors.

The whole reason I bought this phone was because it was a *true* 5.8 GHz system and it would not interfere with the WiFi home network that I am running.I'm happy to report that this is the case - no interference.

I recommend this phone system.

VTech IP811 5.8 GHz Expansion Handset for IP8100-2 Broadband Telephone System Review

We were tired of our cheaper cordless phones not working well or the specific battery was too hard to find and replace, so went for a more expensive and higher GHz model and chose the Vtech (bought the two handset pack).Worked really well for about a year (NYC prewar building), good reception, great range, no interference, nice features, loved the ability to easily replace the rechargeable AAA batteries.

Then one of the hand sets slowly started to die.Bad reception regardless of battery life or quality, screen started to go a few pixels at a time, finally threw it out and went with one handset.Now about two and a half years later I'm shopping for a new cordless phone as the other handset is going the same way...rings only once....bad static....cuts out....pixels on the screen about half gone now.

Loved them while they worked...just didn't last with moderate use.

Panasonic KX-TG5653B 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange Digital Cordless Answering System with Three Handsets Review

If the system had included a keypad and speaker phone on the base, I would have rated it with 5 stars.This is not the fault of the system designers, as I knew of the problem before purchase.Unfortunately, there was no system with 3 hand sets plus a keypad and speaker phone on the base.This system works perfectly, and I do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who needs a system as this one was designed.
Amazon service is beyond reproach -- 5 Stars!!!

Skype Certified USB Phone Free-1 (Black Sharing Pack) Review

When I moved to the US, I had to find a way to talk to the family back in France.

Phone cards are cheaper, but the quality of the voice is soooo random... I started using Skype.

Same issue as the previous reviewer: my neck got tired of trying to get close to the computer mic. And same here, I have a mac and a PC, and don't want to pay $100 for a usb phone...

At first, I was stupid enough to buy a wireless phone. Big mistake: Skype does NOT do well with wireless at all. I should've read the reviews: wireless Skype phones mean dropped calls every 2 minutes.

Then I stumbled upon this package - decided to get one for me, and one for my mom.

That was the best decision: the voice quality is hard to reproduce. In fact, it's 6 times better than a regular phone, which is why I'm happy my mom and I both have one. This way, we get the full voice experience of what Skype has to offer. The noise cancelation is flawless (and God knows I've called from noisy cafes), and the clarity of voices is truly incredible.

Conclusion: a must-have for Skype.

Philips VOIP 080 Skype VOIP Travel Phone Review

This phone has excellent sound quality compare to other Skype phones I've tested. So far, the voice quality for all the Wi-Fi Skype phones from Belkin, Linksys, and Netgear are mediocre. The dual mode models (ones that won't need a PC) offer better quality but still on the pricey side. This USB phone hits the perfect spot in terms of having great sound quality and low price.

Currently it only supports XP/2000 with a newly released Vista driver. No MAC support. Also, buyers beware of the VOIP0801B driver software and Skype version compatibility issue. I installed older version of Skype v2.5.0.122 with VOIP080 Phone Driver v3.1.0.0 that came with the CD. Those are guaranteed to work with each other by Philips. On their support page, they mentioned the latest driver VOIP0801B v3.5.4.0 for XP currently only supports up to Skype v3.6.0.xxx. So check for compatibility status before you decide to upgrade your Skype software or phone driver.

Usability is simple and straightforward. First make sure you've logged into your Skype account and activated the driver software. Pressing the center "S" button on the silver wheel pad will make Skype pops up. Keep pressing "S" allows you to toggle between Contacts, Dial, and History tabs. Hitting Up/Down arrows to select phone numbers within Contacts or History. You can also just simply dial the number like you would for a regular phone. Press "talk" to make the call and "off" to hang up. Press and hold "off" to minimize Skype when you're done.

The earpiece and microphone volume may be adjusted through driver software. Earpiece volume is also adjustable during a call using up/down keys. There are 8 different ringer tones to choose from. Volume for ringer can be set to off/low/high.

It looks very nice and sleek on the outside. The casing was well-designed with extra spacing around the sides for USB cable retraction. Comes with a phone stand as seen in the picture. Also includes a black travel holster that protects your phone on the go. Overall, this is an excellent USB VoIP handset from Philips...definitely one of the best for Skype!

As of today, 02-24-2009, VOIP080 Phone Driver 3.5.4.0 is NOT fully compatible with Skype version 4.0.0.206. After upgrading Skype from version 3.8.0.xxx to version 4, the Up/Down/Talk/Off buttons and center "Skype" button failed to work. Pressing the "Off" button will highlight the "Call phones" tab in Skype and I can still using numerical pad to dial a number. However, everything else such as calling/hanging-up or shifting through your Contacts requires the use of mouse and keyboard. I can still talk using this phone after a call has made through, but navigating through Skype version 4 is now a pain.
