Cingular Go Phone: iFlip Ultra Premium Leather Case for iPhone 3G Review

Oh happy day, the paranoia is gone.I spent the first week with my new iphone obsessing about everything it came into contact with.Once throwing my keys carelessly into the same pocket as my unprotected iphone, I rushed to the nearest lamp to examine for scratches.Luckily the screen on the iphone is fairly resilient, but I did not wish to take any further chances.

I've always liked the flip-style cases for my handheld or pocket devices.This case seemed to fit the bill quite nicely so I ordered it up.It's actually exactly what I was hoping for...well, almost, but I'll get back to that momentarily.

The case is fairly thick so your iphone certainly won't feel as sleek as it does laying naked in your pocket, though it's not ridiculously thick.I actually like the added girth, as I am less paranoid about losing the phone, and can grip it a bit more solidly.

The panels are quite sturdy on their own, the magnetic clasp holds everything together very nicely, and the black leather exterior with brown suede interior is very nice looking.The plastic insert that holds the phone does so very securely without being overly tight, and the cutouts for the buttons (and camera) were very well done, with everything accessible.All-in-all this was exactly what I was looking for in a quick and simple iphone case.

The only caveat is the orientation of the phone itself.The "spine" of the case is at the bottom of the phone, so the front panel flips under, and not over, the phone.This isn't a major problem, but it is a little less comfortable when holding the phone while open.There is no cutout in the leather spine of the case for the data cable or the speakers (the plastic holder has the proper indentation, however), so to plug the phone in the case has to be opened, and it is often hard to hear my phone ringing because the speakers are pretty tightly bound in the case.These issues would be remedied by changing the orientation of the phone so that it flips over the top.However, this would obscure the headphone plug unless a circular hole was cut in the spine.

The last few bits are all personal preference issues, really, so I won't mark the item down for that, but it's information to be aware of before you make a purchase.
