Add an extra cordless handset to your Panasonic KX-TG5500 base system with the remanufactured KX-TGA550M. The handset, which employs a 5.8 GHz frequency-hopping digital spread spectrum signal for unmatched clarity and range, is the perfect tonic for large households that want access to several phones without dealing with crisscrossing wires or multiple phone jacks. Because each base system is expandable up to eight handsets, you can literally equip almost every room in the house with a cordless phone through a single jack. The handset also comes with its own recharging cradle, so it can be stored away from the base unit without losing its juice. Even better, it's outfitted with the same convenient features as the default handsets that come with Panasonic base systems.
The handset speakerphone, for example, is a plus when dealing with automated phone systems. You can turn on the speakerphone, put down the handset while watching TV or typing, and then pick it back up when a voice finally responds. There are plenty of other uses as well, such as putting the whole family on the phone to talk to grandma or grandpa, or conducting a business call with several folks in the room.
The handset also supports a call waiting/caller ID combo (subscription required). Caller ID lets you see who's calling before you answer the phone, while call waiting lets you know when another call is coming in. By combining the two, however, users will learn who's calling even when they're currently in the middle of a conversation with someone else. When you hear the beep, simply look at the handset's four-line LCD display to identify the name and number. It's especially convenient when you're waiting for an important call but still have other calls to make. Plus, the handset supports Talking Caller ID--which audibly announces the caller's name and number--providing the base system is also compatible.
Additional features include a 50-station phone directory (sharable with other system handsets); adjustable volume controls; a lighted keypad for dialing in poor lighting conditions; two-way intercom support; three selectable ring tones and four ringer melodies; and a belt clip and headset jack (headset sold separately) for hands-free communication. The handset and cradle measure 3.1 by 8.9 by 6.5 inches (W x H x D) and are backed by a 90-day warranty.
