This specific model of Hosa stereo Y-cable was recommended by a Rickenbacker group forum user, as an inexpensive substitute for the Ric-o-Sound gadget that's no longer in production. The userwas right: this Y-cable lets me take advantage of the special stereo output jack on my Rick bass. I can plug a standard instrument cable into the two Y ends, and send the bridge and neck pickup signals to two different amps. The Y-cable also seems to be properly shielded.
If you want a more elegant solution you could buy a full-length specialty stereo cable, but if you already have two regular instrument cables lying around, just get one of these and you'll be all set.
