Pelican i1015 Black Case With Clear Lid For iPhone Water Resistant Review

Pelican i1015 Black Case With Clear Lid For iPhone Water ResistantThis case is great! As with all Pelican products, build quality is excellent. I designed a custom retention system which consists of a length of tensioned webbing running along the back and 2 metal clips to securely and effortlessly strap it to my belt, and a "mini wallet" compartment - which is a folded piece of cardboard tucked in the front between the two foam spacers. I used the cardboard from my iPhone packaging, and centered the package's super cool metallic Apple logo in the viewing area over it's sleek black background.

This case could be better if it had the mini wallet built in so I didn't have to add it, but I am perfectly satisfied with my solution. The headphone storage could also have used much more thought - if you just stuff your headphones in the bottom of the storage area, they will cause you grief by making it difficult to rapidly remove and insert the iPhone without getting attacked by them. I am working on a special "cage" to coil the headphones around before inserting them into the case.

My final complaint with this case is the most serious, and it's a major flaw with the current design. The audio throughput cable has only three wires - not four - so it is impossible to use your iPhone headphone's microphone or music control button when the iPhone is in the case. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and I was very disappointed to find it out. I can't wait for Pelican to release an updated case - or even to just mail me a new cable that I could install once they get this figured out.

USB MODEM UTSTARCOM 175 BROADBAND ACCESS PHONE CARD VERIZON CDMA Review

USB MODEM UTSTARCOM 175 BROADBAND ACCESS PHONE CARD VERIZON CDMALiving out in the sticks, dialup internet access was what I had to live with for ages. When Verizon added a tower that improved my cell phone coverage, I started wondering if it was an option for my PC as well.I'm not an early adopter of new technology and waited until neighbors had tried various options before I was willing to try this service.I've been using an extra phone line for the computer, the removal of which will save me half what this service costs monthly.Still it's an extra thirty bucks, so it has to be worth it to me.

Some neighbors are using the satellite service but aren't completely satisfied. The only negative comment I got about this little modem and the service was that there is a limit on how much access you get--5 gig/mo--which means you won't be downloading movies or playing internet games much, if at all.Since this isn't an issue for me, I decided to give it a try.

It is definitely faster than dialup access even at the fastest dialup modem speed.I use AOL and the TCP/IP connect is about 3-5 times faster, then all that stuff they display loads much faster as well and I can go about my business without waiting for more than a few seconds. That said, the transfer rate doesn't compare with the Comcast speed of my daughter's setup in town. This service is faster than dialup, but not 'blinding' by any means. As an example, in the past when I tried to download something, I noted the transfer rate on dialup was something like 4-6k per second.Sigh!!Things took forever and sometimes wouldn't download at all.I downloaded the update for my Kindle last night with this little modem and noted 50k/sec transfer rate.Certainly a lot better.

The speed does seem to depend on 'how crowded the air waves' are (or however you'd say that in technospeak :) and how many bars you get.I've found the number of bars is the same as what I get on my Verizon cell phone.Where my desktop PC is located, it varies from 0 to 2.I have ordered the antenna in hopes of boosting that.

Installing the little modem is as easy as running the CD installation disk that comes with it and then plugging the modem into a USB port when prompted to do so.It also comes with a cable in case you want to plug into a port on the back of a desktop PC and set the modem somewhere with easier access. You can leave the modem attached all the time if you want.It turns off when you turn the PC off. When on, it flashes a blue light, which means it's ready to pick up a signal. To connect your computer to the broadband service, you use the modem software (push the 'connect' button), which to me, seems to be equivalent to turning your cell phone on (the modem has a phone number). It is then ready for you to 'make a call', i.e. connect to the internet using some software such as Internet Explorer or AOL.

You can leave the modem connected all day like you would leave your cell phone on and not affect the data limit since that only happens when you are connected to and using the internet. If you use the internet with your cell phone, you know there is a data limit with it as well. This is sort of the same thing.

The modem software will show you what your usage is each time you connect so you're aware of what you've used so far.Sending emails, Facebook updates, photos, etc uses part of your allocation, as well as downloading files, photos, etc.Various internet screen refresh activities uses some. Watching streaming video or playing games uses a lot. Listening to internet radio uses enough that you probably won't want to do that all the time. For me, after 5 days of email, Facebook postings, attempting to watch some short videos and listening to the AOL radio one day just to see what impact it would have, plus downloading the Kindle software update, posting a few Amazon reviews, and the like, I've used about 225mg, or about 50mg a day, so I should be able to stay within the limit easily with no change to my regular internet activities.

I still cannot really watch streaming videos such as those on YouTube with my 1-2 bar connectivity, without breaks while it reloads the next bit. Even though it reloads faster than before, I have to want to see it pretty badly to put up with that.

One concern: This morning there seemed to be a problem with the modem connecting to Verizon. It was resolved within half an hour and it is Black Friday, which may or may not have anything to do with it.I will update if that happens again, but otherwise it has connected fast and remained connected without problem.

Bottom line: It is definitely better than dialup--for me about 5 times faster. That's not seriously fast, but acceptable and worth the extra money to me, especially since I don't have any options other than satellite which is affected by weather, trees, and costs more as well.

GE 28112EE2 - Cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & answering system - DECT + 1 additional handset(s) Review

GE 28112EE2 - Cordless phone w/ call waiting caller ID & answering system - DECT + 1 additional handset(s)This is a fabulous phone system!I have an older one that I bought about 8 years ago, but the numbers and letters on the handsets aren't readable now.I had intended to buy a new handset or even two, but the handsets were too expensive, anywhere from $29.99 to $42.00 apiece.I looked in the store for the same phone so I could buy it new, expecting to pay about $69.99, but it wasn't available. So I went on line and found it on Amazon for about $15 (yes, $15!) new in the box.Now I have two answering machines and two charger bases, so I am using one answering machine to take calls and the other as an additional charger base.

Every function on the answering machine is so easy to use!Recording a message, replaying messages, deleting messages, setting date and time, etc., all take only a few seconds.Next time I need a new phone I'll definitely be looking for this one again!

Philips CD6452B/37 DECT 6.0 Dual Phone Bundle Review

Philips CD6452B/37 DECT 6.0 Dual Phone BundleI prefer cordless phones so I have had a number of different ones over the years. This one is in the top half in ranking.

PROS: It looks more like a cellphone than a cordless. I have had many compliments from people about how sharp it looks and how much it looks like a cellphone since installing the Philips system. The color screen is very impressive. It even has a couple of games on it just like cellphones do. The sound is much better than my previous phone system, a Uniden system.
The answering machine system is easier to use and is accessible from any phone. The phonebook holds a huge number of phone numbers, 250, which is about 4-5 times as many as the Uniden system did. Tranferring phonebook entries between individual phones is very easy too, since the menu system is much easier.
There is a ring silencer button so when you don't want to answer but instead let the answering machine pick it up you hit the button and it silences the ring on all phones in the system.

CONS: My major beef with the Philips system is its very small number of ringtones available. The Uniden system has many more ringtones available and they could be individually assigned to particular phonebook entries. So you would know who was calling without having to read the caller ID. I am particularly upset that there is no "silent ring" that can be assigned to phonebook entries. With the Uniden, you could add an entry to the phonebook and assign it not to ring. This saves from having to pay the phone company for their "do not ring" service which is so limited (10 numbers) that it isn't worth having.
This could have been the banner feature of the Philips system if it had it because the Philips system allows you to assign phone numbers from your phonebook to one of three groups or allow them to be unassigned. Each group has the ability to have a different ringtone assigned to it so you could take one of the three and assign it silent ring if they had this and dump all of your 1-800 repeated sales calls or bill collectors to that group. Right now I try to find the quietest ringtone they have and assign that one to the third group and dump those numbers into that group but it still does ring.
The other cons are minor. The batteries are not that strong, using two AAA 750's I dumped those right away and put in 1000's, which last twice as long.
The screensavers are nice to look at but you can't add additional ones, or if you can I can't find out how.
The last negative point is that it is a little tedious removing calls from the caller ID list unless you want to remove all of them at once. In that case it is much easier than the Uniden since it is a single menu selection to wipe them all out. It was a little easier with the Uniden system to remove individual entries, though the capacity to store previous calls is larger with the Philips. Adding calls from the caller ID list to the phonebook feature is easier with the Philips, unless you want to change something about the name to be displayed. With the Uniden you could edit the name easier than with the Philips but adding the entry is easier with the Philips system.

So the bottom line is that if you have only a few people you want to store in your phonebook and don't care that much about sound quality, go with the Uniden system. If you have a lot of numbers to store and want super sound quality, but don't mind 800 numbers ringing you all day then go with the Philips.
I just hope they come out with a version with the silent ringer feature that Uniden has.

GE 2.4 GHZ Cordless Phone Review

GE 2.4 GHZ Cordless PhoneI was in the market for a phone and since I already have one with an answering machine, I just wanted a simple cordless phone at a reasonable price.Enter this little beauty from GE, which is not fancy or packed with features. It's a simple, easy to use phone that is priced appropriately. The buttons are spaced sufficiently far apart that they are easy to use without unintentionally bumping others and the labeling is nice and clear.Sound quality has been excellent, even as I wander through the house well away from the base unit.So far, this has been a great purchase and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bare bones phone that does a rock solid job of delivering on the basics.

Panasonic KXTC1851 900 MHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Black) Review

Panasonic KXTC1851 900 MHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller IDI bought this phone because my sony one was utterly unbearable.I had a huge amount of static even when I was standing right next to the base.I have two other cordless phones in the house, both are panasonic and have been running perfectly since we bought them (more than 7 years ago).We drop them, sit on them, throw them around, and they still work.So when I bought this phone, I wasn't worried at all about being disappointed. It looks good and works even better. No static, no fading, and I love the backlit keypad. My one complaint, would be that the CID screen makes it hard for me to put the phone in the right position. My ear usually ends up on the screen rather than the ear piece.I've never had a CID screen before, so I believe that it's something I'll need time to get used to.I wish it had an extension in use feature, but overall, it's a great phone. =)
