JVC KD-BT1 - Radio / CD / MP3 player / digital player - EXAD - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4 Review

JVC KD-BT1 - Radio / CD / MP3 player / digital player - EXAD - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4I replaced the Blaupunkt San Jose receiver in my Honda Accord 2000 4 door sedan (4 speakers) with JVC KD-BT1 on June 16, 2007. I also added SIR-JVC1, the tuner for Sirius satellite radio.

KD-BT1 comes with an external microphone for bluetooth functionality. You can mount it either behind the steering wheel, or on the visor. I decided to mount it on the visor because that is where most factory installed systems have their microphones. I was able to pair my Verizon RAZR V3C phone with KD-BT1 without any issues. KD-BT1 also automatically transferred the entire address book from my phone. I was able to make outgoing calls by dialing numbers, selecting an entry from address book, and redialing. However, KD-BT1 allows "pass-through" to the phone so that I was able to use voice command features of the RAZR. That is my preferred way for calling people. The called party did not have any complaints about sound quality even when I was driving at highway speeds. I was surprised because my relatively old car gets pretty noisy at those speeds! Some reviewers on the Internet complained that the called party heard an echo of their voice, but I have made around 10 calls so far and the called parties did not encounter this problem. Incoming calls are handled well by the KD-BT1 as well. Any active audio source is automatically muted, caller ID displayed, and if there is a matching entry in the address book, the name from that entry is displayed. Overall, I think the bluetooth functionality is better than factory installed systems in BMW 5 series 2006, Acura TL 2006, and Lexus GS 2006, which I have personally experienced.

The USB interface works great too. I do not have a very large USB flash drive or hard drive, but I tested with a 512 MB flash drive and it worked flawlessly. I also have a SanDisk 1GB player loaded with DRM WMA music purchased from MSN, Walmart etc. I plugged that in to the USB port and KD-BT1 took over the player controls and played DRM WMA flawlessly! This was very exciting because I have a huge library of DRM WMA songs!

The Sirius radio worked without any issues. It is easy to surf channels or jump to your favorite channels.

I only wish they could have made the menu system a little more user friendly. It takes a while to get used to it, but once you do it works fine.

I do not think there is any other car stereo out there with so many features and sources for this price! Highly recommended!

Bandless Ear-clip Headphones with In-line Volume Control Review

Bandless Ear-clip Headphones with In-line Volume ControlWhen I first saw the photo of the headphones, I admit I was pretty excited. I was thinkin, "wow, what a great price for such awesome lookin' headphones!" Now, I didn't LOOK at the specifications and just decided to throw in the 10-something dollars. When I got the package a couple weeks later, I was pretty disappointed how SMALL the actual headphones were. They barely cover your ears (maybe i have big ears?) but that really wasn't the problem. They grasp the ears ok; they don't pinch too tight. But when I actually started listening to the songs, I realized the biggest problem. It doesn't isolate the sounds! MAJOR sound leakage!! When I was on the bus, I saw that everyone around me was staring at me because they could hear the music. That was the same volume i listen with my other earphones and everytime i use the headphones, I turn down the volume so i can barely hear it...which pretty much makes them useless.

SO all in all, if you wanna go for the sleek style, it's pretty good for the price. But if you're lookin for more that just looks and want the power and isolation capacity, throw in a couple more bux and go for somethin' better.

JVC KW-AVX800 7-inch In-dash Multimedia System Review

JVC KW-AVX800 7-inch In-dash Multimedia SystemI purchased this unit specifically because I wanted certain functions. After extensive research, I found that this device said in the product specs that it would do everything I wanted. While technically true, it performed so poorly in some areas that I in the end was disappointed.I have now tried several units trying to get these functions, including this unit.Ultimately, I returned this unit, though because it was not good enough at all of the things I wanted it to do. If you do not care about some of the things I do (or you care about other things - for example, for me DVD playback was irrelevant, so I did not even try this out), the unit might be fine for you.

Keep in mind, in order to do a lot of these things, you need to buy a separate breakout box or adapter that is not included in the price. Here is a list of what I wanted it to do & how it did:

1.Bluetooth integration.Fantastic.Best voice dial integration on any product I tried. There is a dedicated hard button to turn on voice dial that can be accessed no matter what mode the unit is in. Call quality was also good.It also accessed and played in a very good quality my music on my bluetooth smartphone.Truly, best in breed, and if all you care about is bluetooth integration, then this unit is for you.
2.Ipod integration. Not so good.Although the unit is touch screen, instead of listing items on the screen and letting you touch them to select, it instead only goes through one item in a menu tree at a time & then you have to hit an "enter" button that is not marked as enter. It looks like they took a non-touch screen interface & used it in this unit instead of writing one to take advantage of the touch screen capabilities.Worse, it sometimes looses time scyc with my latest generation ipod (I tried both a new 8 gb nano and a new 80 gb classic & had the same problems). Basically, the time would come up with "00:00" quite often, and then stay there.Because the unit continually thinks you are at the beginning of a track, it will not let you rewind. This can be a problem with books on tape or podcasts. This happened at least a few times per week.My installer said JVC was aware of this problem.
3.XM integration.OK but not great. It suffers from the same annoying lack full touch screen integration that exists for ipod, albeit to a much lesser extent. You can, for example, select a preset by touching the channel. However, my xm presets would often disappear from the preset list. What I mean is that the slot for the preset would be there, but the channel name would be missing. This happened almost daily. My installer said JVC was aware of this problem.
4.Control of unit from factory redundant controls on steering wheel.Poor.I wanted to be able to control basic functions on the unit from the factory steering wheel controls so I would not have to take my eyes off the road.Sometimes it worked, sometimes (often) it did not.Volume down refused to work most of the time.

In the end, item 1 was great, item 2 was below average, item 3 was OK, and item 4 was poor.On balance, not good enough for me to keep.

F-Pin Female / F-Pin Male Quick Connect, AdaptorI recently got a JVC stereo with a F-Pin Quick Connect female input for the FM antenna.I had no idea what I was looking at.I have this cool TERK FM antenna and no way to connect it.
Yay! for the internet!
I found that the standard cable TV connector was call an "F-Pin" and 2 seconds later this adapter pops up.Screw it on, plug it in, and I've got CarTalk pouring through the speakers.

JVC Full-Size Headphones (Black) Review

JVC Full-Size HeadphonesThese JVC headphones have the finest sound I have yet heard from any, regardless of price. I have two pair of the JVC HA-WA300RF wireless headphones and have been very happy with their sound quality. So, when I saw these (and the fantastic price) I took a chance.(the cordless format has some minor problems with RF interference, etc). The cord is fairly long (about 8ft).

The extreme low frequency bass is phenomenal! The highs are there, firmly but not stridently, midrange is there for vocalists. This has it all! You won't want to lend these to anyone. Very comfortable, too. Where have these been all my life! Get a pair now. I'm ordering my third pair.
