Tune Belt Deluxe MP3 Player Carrier Review

Tune Belt Deluxe MP3 Player CarrierIt's hard to find a belt for Sony Mini Disc players that are comfortable and small enough. Most "fanny pack" style carriers are too big, or are made of nylon, which can chafe.Others are arm band that chafe and slide down in you have skinny Mr. Peanut arms like I do.I like this carrier because it's made of neoprene (wetsuit material) which makes it light, stretchy, and dries quickly. It hides well under your shirt, and has a night reflective logo on the back (but if you're jogging at night with headphones on, you are just asking for trouble). It has enough room for a Mini-Disc player, with one or two extra discs and a spare AA battery. The only design flaw I could see was that there is no hole for the headphone jack; it just sort of jams in there. But since the case is so flexible, it won't ruin the headphone jack.I like running with Mini-Disc players over CD players since they don't skip, and I'm just not down with the whole IPod fad.I recommend this product to any runner who needs music while wheezing and sweating.

Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, iPod touch 1G, 2G, 3G Review

Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit for iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, iPod touch 1G, 2G, 3GI was skeptical about buying this because I'd read so many bad reviews. Nike and Apple both live on hype, so how good could it really be? After a lot of online research on how to position the chip in your shoe and calibrate it properly, I decided to buy. I followed the steps (listed below) and have had no trouble. I did a one mile calibration and 3 weeks later the Nike+ was accurate to 200 feet on my half marathon! Incredible for something that costs $30. Maybe GPS is for hard core runners, but this would be fine for your average running fan. And the cool online running log is a great bonus you don't get with the geeky full feature GPS systems.

The secret to making it work right:
1: position the chip face up, facing forward on your shoe

2: The chip must be held so it doesn't jiggle at all. (if you have nikes, this isn't a problem, but I don't so I cut a hole in my sole and made my own chip holder. I've see people use the lace holders with success, but it has to be really tight.

3: calibrate it for at least a mile on flat ground and try to run a consistent pace that is normal for your running. If you improve your average running time, you should recalibrate with the new pace for maximum accuracy.

(Was this nerdy enough for everyone?)

Apple MA365LL/D Nike+ iPod Sport Kit Review

Apple MA365LL/D Nike+ iPod Sport KitI've been using the Nike+ sensor since December 2006 so I figured I would go ahead and write a review for those who are considering buying this.I'm actually using my second sensor now (my first one ran out of battery, after logging about a year and a half of use and approximately 1700 miles).I run with Asics and use a Marware Sportsuit Sensor Case (basically a pouch for the sensor) to attach the sensor to the top of my laces. In other words, you don't need the Nike+ shoes to use this.If you have an iPhone or iPod touch then you won't need the receiver that plugs into the bottom of the Nano either (it's a built-in app on the iPhone and iPod touch).

Now as for the accuracy. For the most part it's pretty accurate but that's all going to depend on your calibration and whether you're running on a treadmill or on the ground. What I have noticed is that it tends to err towards the average pace you ran during calibration. For example, if you averaged an 8-min/mile during calibration then when you're running slower than an 8 min/mile it will show that you are running faster than you actually are and if you're running faster than an 8 min/mile it will show that you are running a slower pace than you actually are.I have tested this on treadmills and on the track. That being said, it's still fairly accurate, probably within 95% accuracy (assuming you're able to run close to your normal pace). As for varying degrees of accuracy running on the treadmill vs. running on the ground, I'm not exactly sure why that happens, maybe because my stride is a little different on the treadmill.Anyways, what I do for that is I will calibrate on the treadmill when I know I'll be running on the treadmill a lot for some period of time (like in the winter when it's too cold to run outside) and then calibrate on the track when I know I'll be running outside a lot.

After your runs, you plug your iPod or iPhone into your computer and send the workout data to the Nike+ website.Nike has put together a very nice site and this is probably the best thing about using this device. On the site you can view your running stats, set up running goals, challenge your friends to competitions, get running advice, map running routes, and probably some other things. They're constantly updating the site so there are probably some features I haven't used. You can check it out for yourself at [...].There is a pretty big running community on the site so it's great for motivation and let's face it, the main reason why you would buy a device like this is probably to motivate yourself to run more. For those serious runners, the stats that are tracked with Nike+ may be a little disappointing. You get stats for the entire workout but unfortunately you can't get split times during the run.It does give you your pace at various points in your run but you can't see how long it took you to reach certain points in your run (how long it took you to get to mile 1, 5k, etc).

For those of you who like pros and cons lists...here you go:

Pros:
- Easy to use and fairly accurate (read above where I talk about accuracy).
- The [...]website which is great for motivation (it would be nice if you could see how long it took you to reach a certain distance during your run though)
- Good for those runners who run on treadmills to be able to track their miles.
- Cost.Cheaper than GPS systems and Polar's S1 Foot Pad, which does the exact same thing but retails for $130.Also, if you have an iPhone or iPod touch you can save some money by just buying the sensor that attaches to the shoe instead of the entire kit.

Cons:
- May need to calibrate for better accuracy (on track and on treadmill, at least for me...maybe you'll be lucky and not see a difference)
- Once battery dies in the sensor you need to buy a new one (can't replace battery).

Sennheiser OMX50 Street Line Flexible Stereo Clip-On Earphones Review

Sennheiser OMX50 Street Line Flexible Stereo Clip-On EarphonesI just wanted to point out to potential buyers that the information in Amazon's product description is in once case wrong and in another case subject to differing opinion.

1) In the design section it says "And when you're not listening to your portable device, coil up your earphones and store them in the protective carrying case included with purchase so that they don't get tangled up with your keys, cell phone, or other accessories."THERE IS NO CASE OF ANY SORT INCLUDED WITH THESE!

2) In the first paragraph of the product description it says: "Constructed with individually adjustable ear clips and packaged with an ear adapter set that includes extra ear pads in small, medium, and large sizes".I guess I expected something different from reading that. The two extra earpad sets that are included are not as much different in size (small/medium/large as it implies) as they are in style. Although both of the two extra sets make them larger than the removable ring that is included on them as they are packaged. One set is the foam pad covering, and the other set is more of a rubber flange that adds greater sealing potential.

In summary, they sound very good for the price and if you don't mind the assymetrical cable style and you like the ear clip style thenI'd recommend them.ALL YOU GET IS EXACTLY WHAT IS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE AMAZON HAS FOR DISPLAY! (at least as of 8/5/06 when I wrote this.)

Kicker HP301 On-Ear Behind-the-Neck Headphone Review

Kicker HP301 On-Ear Behind-the-Neck HeadphoneExactly what I've been looking for - one piece with a flexible connecting wire, easy to put on or take off, comfortable, and good enough sound quality for most purposes! I don't like earbuds, especially when walking outside as I want to be able to hear cars coming. So in this respect the non-sound-blocking qualities are desired. They're pretty standard for on-ear style headphones as far as sound quality goes. The flexible wire and no tangle cord are great though, and the main reason I bought them. The case is nice too. I've had no trouble with the flexible wire - it uncoils easily for wearing, and coils the headphones back up as soon as I take them off. I am very happy with these!

Sony MDRQ33LP Open Air W.EAR Headphones Review

Sony MDRQ33LP Open Air W.EAR HeadphonesPros:
- Cool, customizable and catchy design
- Strong, clear sound
- Very lightweight and comfortable (louder than most other headphones)
- Great value
- Sony brand name
- New, more flexible type of wire (feels almost like a very thin strand of yarn)
Cons:
- Wire is too long and gets tangled too easily
- Feels "loose" on your ears, almost as if its about to fall off
- I suspect that the sound bleeds easily since it doesnt fit very tightly against your ear and doesn't have very much padding.

Philips HS500 Behind-the-Head Sport Headphones with Neckband Review

Philips HS500 Behind-the-Head Sport Headphones with NeckbandI bought these headphones at Wal-Mart because all my other headphones were old and dying.I wasn't expecting great things from them because they were so cheap (I usually never buy headphones under $20) and Wal-Mart was selling them (they're not exactly the electronics experts, if you know what I mean). But I was shocked by how good they sounded! They were even better than my $25 Sony headphones (a lot better actually). They're very comfortable and the sound is crystal clear.Excellent bass (no annoying crackles even on Ashanti's "Down For You" which has crackled every one of my headphones, even on a very low volume.)Another excellent feature--a little yellow thingy to prevent what nearly every headphone dies of--a pulled cord resulting in a short. It keeps the first half inch or so (the most vulnerable part) from being accidently pulled.I've had these things for over a year and there have been no problems with them yet.

Those of you not used to behind-the-head headphones will find them a little awkward at first, but whoever invented them was a genius.First, you don't have to constantly adjust them because they're slipping off your head. Also, if you're a girl you will love them.If you sometimes wear a pony tail high on your head like I do, they are wonderful. With conventional headphones, if you had a high ponytail, you had to put the headphones in an awkward position, because your ponytail is usually where the headphones are placed.Either they were slipping off the back of your head or the front.Such a pain! With these, having a pony tail is no problem.Just slip them on (with the headband part at the back of your head) pull your pony tail out and you're ready to go!It's also an absolute miracle for joggers and walkers (like I am) and guys who wore conventional headphones behind their head anyway (now they won't look like weirdos anymore!)

If you're looking for a cheap pair of headphones with excellent sound, these are definitely for you.I like them so much that I might just order myself another pair!
