Monster Reference PowerCenter HTS 3500 MKII Review

I was a mouse click or two from placing an order for this item, when I read a review for the PowerCenter 3600 Mk II, which pointed out that the 3600 wasn't a line conditioner (neither is the 3500). The reviewer confirmed that with Monster customer support.

What's a line conditioner? It's a unit that can adjust voltages that drop below or go above 120, back to 120. In the end, I bought a Tripp Lite Line Conditioner instead of the Monster 3500. It cost about the same, but would adjust voltages 87 - 140 back to 120, provides surge protection and noise suppression.

Perhaps the Monster units provide superior surge protection and noise cleaning, but it doesn't seem like they incorporated line conditioners into their PowerCenter products to actually stablize the voltage. They do have a line conditioner, the AVS 2000, but it'll burn a hole in your wallet, yet not provide surge protection or noise filtering. I don't understand why Monster doesn't provide an integrated power conditioning product.

Monster PC200 Computer PowerCenter¿ with Surge Protection Including Phone Line/Fax with Audible and Visual Indicators Review

First thing first, this unit takes up BOTH plugs.There is a three-prong plug and a second ground prong on the back.There is also a screw that mounts this unit (semi-permanently) to the wall socket.You simply back out the screw that holds the plastic wall plate to your outlet and screw this in, leaving the plastic wall plate in place.(I probably wrote that in a way that comes off as complicated, but it's not.)You can remove the screw from the unit and take it on vacation / trips with you for your laptop and what not.

Lastly, there IS NO WAY your plug will fall out of this device!When you go to plug in your computer, or whatever, you wil notice that it is REALLY hard to push in.The contacts are supposed to be that way to further protect your device/computer from having the cord accidently ripped out.You'll find it's a bit overkill if you are using this for a device that requires you to plug and unplug it daily.But I dig it.

I highly recommend this unit!

Product description indicates this unit comes with a 9 foot power cord...which is why I ordered it.Unit I received had 6 foot power cord. If you have a Bose wave or other type of boom box that has auxiliary audio jacks, you can hook up your ipod to it with this cable. This cable is very well made, with gold-plated contacts and very thick rubber/plastic covering. It is also shielded against stray rf interference. The 1/8 inch connector end goes into the ipod, where you normally hook up your earphones or ear buds. This is a great ipod accessory to have at home if you have a stereo amp or a boom box.

I bought these a while ago, and I have to say they are great. The tangle-free cord is very nice, the earbuds have a very nice quality of sound with deep and detailed bass (which I love). My only problem with these earbuds is the large size of the metal part, which is annoying to the ear but not too annoying.

I bought this for my Entertainment center, and it works exactly as advertised.I have some vintage gear that has old power switches with no remotes, and this device lets me use my TV to control their power perfectly.For anyone that wants a basic greenpower device without spending lots like some of the other devices available, this is a perfect one.The flat wall plug is a nice touch, since you can see the outlet in my living room to the side of the entertainment center.I appreciate the ability of the surge stage to auto-disconnect all power (instead of a one-time sacrificial stage that allows power to continue through after it's been fried) so that if the power surges several times (say, in a lightning storm) the strip will not continue to take surge after surge.

I could care less who brands this (HP, Monster, whoever..) but I am slightly concerned that I saw an identically packaged device at my local drugstore from a generic brand.I really wonder in the end who designed this product, but am not concerned because the warranty is the same either way!

Rocketfish 7-outlet Home Office Surge Protector - Black with Coaxial Cable and Phone line/fax/modem Protection RF-PCS7ES Review

The surge strip is supposed to control a number of devices when the master plug detects an on/off.So when you turn the master device on, the power strip is supposed to turn on all the other switched plugs.

This seems to work great for a computer.I have 3 of these surge strips and they seem to work great for computers.However I'm trying to control it with an xbox which should work, because the xbox draws about 4 watts during power off.The surge strip states that it works with devices that draw less than 10 watts during power off (or sleep mode), but this doesn't seem to be quite the case.
