Sennheiser PXC 150 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones Review

Sennheiser PXC 150 Active Noise Cancelling Headphonesi like the sound, crips high's and mid, not a lot of bass, but sounds very nice, however, this baby is going back because the three drawbacks:

1) it's a mini headphone, my ear hurts after wearing if for extended time, this is more apparent if I compare it with my other headphones.

2) the noise cancellation unit is a pain, make the headphone only useful i I am stationary.

3) uses 2 AAA batteries, the noise cancellation is marginal and cost $$, and gives a slight hiss sound when turned on, which is sometimes annoying when between songs.

biggest issues is the earcup too small, also the ugly bad design of the noise cancellation unit.

Philips HS820 Compact Foldable Neckband Headphones Review

Philips HS820 Compact Foldable Neckband HeadphonesThe HS820's sound every bit as good as my Sennheiser PMX60's.In addition, they are more comfortable, have a longer cord, and they fold!I used to switch back and forth between the HS500's for everyday and the Sennheisers for "critical" listening. Now I just stay with the HS820s.In the picky column, I would have preferred a black cord because the ivory clashes with my Zens.

This is how I rate the Philips phones I have used:

HS820 - buy them!
HS500 - great but the HS820s are better
SHS391 - better sound quality than the HS520 but less comfortable - save your money (see my review under SHS391)
HS520 - not very good sound but I keep them because I can sleep with them and not crush my ears.
HS420 - not very good sound but ok for the exerbike where earpads would be way to hot
HS400 - save your money
HS800 - (folding) behind the head - Save your money.Uncomfortable with average sound.
SHS420 - Earhook headphones - save your money. The music sounded like it was being played through helium, no bass. They also didn't want to stay put.
HN050 Noise Canceling - DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!You have been warned.

Koss - KSC11 behind the head - Tried them and hated them.Terrible sound and, without a doubt, the most painful headphones I have ever worn. The plastic frame clamps directly to your head and the phones hover over your ears, so they don't take any of the load. These things will leave dents in your head!

Akg K27i Closed-Back Headphones Review

Akg K27i Closed-Back HeadphonesI bought these headphones after comparing pairs for a month, and when they arrived, I felt INCREDIBLY satisfied with my purchase.

The sound quality is undeniably great, though indeed the sound sometimes feels a bit compressed. The headphones are light and fit comfortably - I managed to wear these for 3 hours on end without soreness. All in all, the headphones were more than worth the $50. But what has turned me off from the k27i is its poor construction.

After less than a month of use, the right cup of the headphones detached. Just cleanly and completely came off. There was no evidence of material fatigue or breakage, and, yes, after a couple of attempts to reattach the cup I succeeded. I also contacted AKG in an attempt to exercise the warranty, since my pair was definitely flawed.

I know what you're thinking - shouldn't be anything to worry about, considering the 2-year manufacturing warranty. Well, I sent an email to AKG's U.S. branch of warranty service and they gave me this reply: "Unfortunately this is a non-warranty issue... if you'd like to send them in for a replacement we would be more then happy to replace them at a charge of $43.00 plus shipping."

Naturally, my reaction was shock. The cup of the headphones detached without any help and clearly the pair were in some way internally defective, yet I am unable to obtain service. No, according to AKG, I must purchase another pair.

The headphones lived up to my expectations but the company did not. I'm very disappointed in AKG's policy and feel cheated. For the short amount of time (keep in mind, this was a mere 3 weeks of daily use) I was able to enjoy my headphones, I rate them a 5. But considering the shoddy workmanship of the product and AKG's failure to stand by its warranty, I give the k27i a 2.

Sennheiser PX 200 II B Closed on Ear Mini Headphones (Black) Review

Sennheiser PX 200 II B Closed on Ear Mini HeadphonesI bought these as a replacement for my broken PX 200s 1st edition. My experience with the 1st gens was that they were great overall, although they had the following cons:

1. The cable was made up of two individual wires. This meant that the cable would get tangled upon itself and just about every time id put them on, I would have to spin the cable around to get it straightened
2. The cable split to both ear pieces. This resulted in the cable always being directly under your chin which could at times be awkward
3. Extended use (1 hour or more) made my ears get sweaty, regardless of volume

The 2nd gens have corrected each of the above mentioned issues. The cable is one solid wire, meaning no tangles. The cable only connects to the LEFT ear piece, meaning that the wire goes down more gracefully by the side of your face. Ive worn them to the gym 3 or 4 times, and have not experienced much ear-sweat, if any.

Quality/Comfort
I'm not an audiophile, but in my opinion the sound quality is great for gym usage with hip hop/rock/techno playlists. The headphones block out the music playing at my gym quite nicely, which is critical because Lifetime Fitness has invested in a quality sound system which they use to blast Britney Spears and Rihanna all day. They are as comfortable as any other headphone I've ever worn, although I haven't used that many well known headphones besides the 1st Gens and some lower priced Sennheiser models.Specs:
The cable is roughly 4 feet long, with the volume controller being about 1 foot away from the end of the cord. One other aspect of the volume controller that is worth noting is that it has a "clip" mechanism on the back of it that allows you to attach it to your shirt/pants/etc. They are CLOSED style, which means that nearby people will NOT be able to hear them... making them a nice option for work environments. One more nice feature is that you can turn the ear pieces 90 degrees (so that if you are wearing the headphones around your neck, the ear pieces will be pointing outwards) to make them more collapsible for storage. You can also point the ear cups outwards and play music for friends or yourself.Cons:
The only CON I'm aware of so far is that they don't collapse quite as nicely as the 1st Gens because the volume controller gets in the way. They still collapse though (just not as well), which allows for more convenient storage than 95% of decent sounding portable headphones.Summary:
If I was in the market for a portable headphone, I would buy these again... as long as they were within $20 of the first generation version.
