Panasonic KX-TCA86 Comfort-fit headset with travel fold design Review

Panasonic KX-TCA86 Comfort-fit headset with travel fold designI bought this headset thinking to replace my aging (yet still functional) Plantronics that I've used every day of the week for 5+ years.

Well, I'm still with my old Plantronics, and after using this, I'll probably replace it with a similar model from them!

The good:
1) The ear pad is comfortable and largish, which works for me.I like a headset that feels comfortable against my ear for long periods of time (as in many hours).
2) The price here is a third of what I paid... can't believe I didn't research this, but I fell for the old "if it's expensive, it has to be good" marketing ploy at an Office ***-***** style store.

The bad:
1) The bumped out hard rubber piece that sits on your non-listening ear was both uncomfortable and shaped the opposite of how it will fit your head
2) The "mute" button only works while you hold it in.How does that help me on a 2 hour conference call?My Plantronics has a switch.
3) No Voice volume boost?Come on!
4) The "noise cancelling" is also "voice cancelling" to some degree.I had to increase my volume just to be heard. This was the main reason I ditched it after two days of testing with a newer phone system. It turns out that my Panasonic 2-line 5GHz cordless units also lower the output of my voice, but this thing does too.Going back to my old headset made it more reasonable for others to hear me.I don't have to shout as often (the problem with my new phone system made me question if I was being objectionable about the headset at first)
5) The fold out style of the headband is pretty inflexible and seems sort of pointless.I found that it dug into my head a little.

I've always been one to try new technology, and this looked on par with my original headset.I was (and still am) firmly in the Plantronics camp, but I thought I'd give it a try.Sorry to say that I did. After this, I may never try another brand.(No, Plantronics didn't solicit this review, but they sure could send me some money if they feel like it!) ;-)

Don't buy it.You'll probably return it just like I did.

Wireless Headset W Adapter for Cordless Telephones Review

Wireless Headset W Adapter for Cordless TelephonesIf Call Waiting matters to you...

I bought this and used it for a couple of hours before realizing that it did not support Call Waiting AT ALL (unless you consider hanging up on your current call acceptable). The omission of such a commonplace phone system feature should have been stated up front - it was not.The "workaround" suggested by the Plantronics support staff is simply absurd and involves a five step process to "flash" over to the incoming call.As conveyed by the Plantronics support personnel:

1. Pick up your phone / press Talk on your phone
Note: The step above may require a short sprint if you don't carry your phone around with you.
2. Hang up the headset (this is NOT OPTIONAL, see below)
3. Flash over to the incoming call using your phone's Flash/Talk button
You are now talking to your new party on your PHONE
4. Click the headset button to turn the headset back on
5. Hang up your phone.

You must repeat steps 1 - 5 to return to your original call. The Plantronics web site FAQ states the following:

=========================================
Can I switch between calls ("Flash" feature) using the headset?
If the user is on a call using the headset and receives another incoming all, pressing the headset button will simply hang up the current call but will not transfer to the new incoming call.
*Important note: The "Flash" feature is deactivated when the CS55H headset is turned on. In other words, if the user turns the phone back on during an incoming call in order to view incoming Caller ID, pressing the "Flash" button on the handset will not switch to the other call.
=========================================

That said, the call quality and range of the headset was excellent and if call waiting/switching between calls is not important to you then you'll probably be very happy with it.

AT&T TL7610 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Headset (Silver/Black) Review

AT&T TL7610 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless HeadsetI bought this headset to replace a corded one that plugged into my cordless phone. I kept having to replace the corded one because the cord would snag on things when I moved around, and the cord would eventually die. The corded ones were costing me about $25 each. This headset was a lot more expensive, but it is so much better in every way. All of the corded headsets I used had volume problems- 2 just weren't loud enough, and the one that was was just barely so. This headset has a volume control on it, and it is loud enough for me when set about medium. The headset is not cumbersome- no cord to catch on things or come unplugged. I use the headband style attachment, and find it very comfortable. There are several earpieces included and I think that most people would find an option to suit them. I have an older house which is quite solidly constructed. It's hard to hear someone calling out from the other end of the house, even though it's just a 1400 sq ft ranch house. I wondered if reception would be a problem if I got too far from the base, but I have had no problems with that, inside or outside the house. No interference when passing by computers, our Tivo, or the microwave, either. I think this headset will last a long time, and for me it was well worth the higher price. I wondered if I was going to want the lifter or keypad accessories, but have found the headset works fine as is. I wouldn't buy it as a replacement for a second phone, though, as it obviously lacks any way to check caller ID or dial out. I dial on a cordless handset, then put on the headset and turn it on. You can actually turn the handset off, then, I think, but then you won't have caller ID or any way to "flash" to a 2nd call if one comes in, so I leave the handset on. I do have to be careful to remember to turn the handset off when I hang up. I wondered if I had to have AT&T phones to use this headset, but this headset works fine with my Panasonic phones.

AT&T TL7600 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Headset and Charger (Silver/Black) Review

AT&T TL7600 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Headset and ChargerI received the AT&T TL7600 Wireless Headset and promptly registered it to my At&T Dect 6.0 phone system.Great product!!My wife loved the quality of the sound, and especially the "hands free" operation. She also like the "over the head" holder. She found it comfortable & convenient to wear.

My problem was the design of the electronics.Once registered, this headset can not be reset independently from the base it is registered to.My AT&T phone system base failed / died. I was not able to un-register the headset from the "dead" base.I returned the original phone system for a replacement, but now the headset TL7600 was still registered to the defunct system and could not be reset.I could not register it to the new phone base/system. I contacted AT&T techical support, and they could only ship me out a new headset.

If I had bought a AT&T wireless headset #TL7610, I would have been able to reset the headset through the available program buttons mounted on the re-charger base. That would have saved me from returning my original purchased headset.

I now have a new TL7600, replacing the original, and programed to my newest phone system / base.I hope the base of this phone system does not fail, or I will have to go through the exchange process again (provided it happens during the first 30 days of exchange opportunity). If the base of the phone system dies after 30 days... I'm not sure of my options.

Plantronics Cordless Headset Phone (CT14) Review

Plantronics Cordless Headset PhoneI received apparently one of the first Plantronics CT14 cordless headset telephones, and the bottom line is that there are no big surprises, which means I like the telephone given that I had high expectations in view of my previous experience with Plantronics quality. I did not have either of the previous models, CT12 or CT10, so I cannot compare to those. However at my office for a number of years I have been using a CS10 cordless headset system which works with a multi-line telephone, and I have become quite addicted to using a headset. Based on what I think is an objective test, the audio quality and volume of the CT14 are superb. The way I test that is to call my own voicemail and, during the same call, switch between various telephones while leaving a message. Then I listen to the recorded message, again switching among various telephones. That lets me hear the quality for myself, without relying on a person I am talking to for a report. One characteristic I am pleased to see included is that it is possible to chain dial from recorded numbers in the "phonebook." Thus, when I use a calling card with a 1-800 access number I can then access the PIN in the phonebook to have that dialed as well, followed by the number of the person I am calling. With some other telephones, after you have used the "phonebook" and the call is in progress, the directory scrolling keys change to a different function (e.g. volume) and all the remaining numbers must be dialed by hand. The only negative thing I have to say about the CT14 is that there is a higher level of background noise than I am accustomed to, which I suspect (but do not know for sure) is an inherent part of the DECT 6.0 technology which uses a single frequency band for both sides of the conversation, and uses time division duplex. So, digitally, a lot is going on behind the scenes, and I think I am hearing digital artifacts. This is mitigated somewhat because there is ample volume. So the volume can be turned down, which reduces the background noise, while still being able to hear the person on the other side. At some point I may compare to another DECT 6.0 telephone, or attempt to see what Plantronics has on this issue. (Update: I called Plantronics and a very pleasant rep assured me that the background noise I am hearing is not normal. The background should be quiet. He gave me an RMA number to send back the telephone for a replacement, but before I do that I am going to try the telephone someplace else. It is possible there is some sort of electrical interference unique to my house. Now that I finally have this telephone, I am very reluctant to part with it for any length of time. I really like it.) Earlier complaints regarding the predecessor CT12 concerned interference with Wi-Fi networks, and it seems clear that is not a problem with the CT14. The CT14 operates on a different frequency band (1920-1930 MHz versus 2400-2500 MHz), and that is an advertised feature of the CT14.
