Lenmar SOLOXP-X1 Universal Li-Ion Travel Charger with USB Power Port Review

This is a "universal" charger in the sense that it operates on any AC line voltage between 100 to 240 and at both 50Hz and 60 Hz. In that sense it ought to be usable almost anywhere in the world. The two-prong AC power plug folds neatly into the body avoiding the inconvenience of a power cord. The power plug is non-polarized type commonly used in 120 volt US households. When traveling to other countries, you will undoubtedly need the appropriate adapter plug, but you won't need the voltage converter transformer.

The charger body itself produces several different DC voltages for various types of Lithium Ion digital camera and camcorder batteries. You will need the correct adapter plate(s) for your specific battery type(s). The adapter plate snaps into the charger body and your battery snaps into the adapter plate. The adapter plates are sold separately.

The charger also has a USB connection that supplies 5.25 VDC at 0.2 Amps for charging other small electronic devices such as iPods and MP3 players.

There is a small LED that lights up green when your battery is fully charged. While charging, the LED remains dark so you have no idea whether it is working or not. I consider that to be a design flaw. Since it might take up to 4-5 hours to fully charge a dead battery, it would be really comforting to know that the outlet you are using is live and that the charger is actually working and you are not wasting time.

Most Lithium Ion batteries have three metal tabs for connecting to the charger. These are labeled +, -, and T. The "T" stands for temperature and is used to throttle back rapid chargers so they don't ruin the battery. This however is not a rapid charger, so it does not use the "T" connection.

Overall this seems to be an excellent choice for a travel charger. Assuming that you have more than one battery for your camera, this charger will allow you to be filming with one battery while charging the other.

I've had this camera case for 2 years and I don't have one complaint. I have the older Canon PowerShot A590IS and it was very difficult to find a case that was big enough to hold it yet stylish enough for me to use. This case holds both my camera and two extra AA rechargeable batteries. There is a mesh pocket on the inside, perfect for holding your memory card if you have a slimmer camera. I always get compliments on this case and I'm so glad to have it!

SanDisk 2 GB Class 2 SD Flash Memory Card SDSDB-2048-A11 Review

I've been using the SanDisk standard speed SD card series for four years and have never had a problem with these inexpensive, yet reliable cards. My oldest one (a 512MB) is still used very frequently, having captured thousands of photographs. Now that the prices are getting lower and the sizes bigger, I would suggest that if you're only shooting still shots, 2GB is probably way more than you'll ever need. A 2GB card will probably hold about 900 photos depending on your camera's megapixels and JPEG compression. That's like 40+ rolls of 35mm film! However, if your camera shoots video, this card is steal since you'll never know when you need more space.

FOR KODAK OWNERS: In July 2006, I replaced a SanDisk regular SD card like this one with a SanDisk Ultra II card for my Kodak DX7590, because I was hoping that it would allow my camera to write high-quality 5MP pictures faster. But to my surprise, it timed exactly the same. So I emailed Kodak, and this was their response: "We appreciate your interest in high speed memory for your digital camera. Our cameras are designed to operate, write and read SD cards at set voltage speeds. Therefore, there is no advantage to using faster memory in Kodak cameras."

So if you use a Kodak dock or USB cable to transfer images from a Kodak camera to your computer, this standard SanDisk card is all you need...there's no advantage to paying extra for a high-speed card like the Ultra II. However, if you use a card reader to get images from the SD card to your computer, and speed is important to you, then it might be worthwhile to pay a little more for the Ultra II since read and write speeds through the card reader could be substantially faster.

Case Logic ECB-1 EVA Digital Camera Case (Wine) Review

I got this case (in green) recently for my new Canon SD1100 IS camera. If you just want to protect your camera from daily wear-and-tear, then I would recommend this case for its semi-rigid body and durable exterior. If you're looking for aesthetics, this case is probably not for you. The craftsmanship is poor, and the detachable strap is very flimsy. Also, you shouldn't get this case if you want to carry all of your various camera accessories at once. To summarize:

Pros:
-fits most compact point-and-shoot cameras
-semi-rigid body / durable exterior
-reasonable price
-comes in a variety of fun colors

Cons:
-poor craftsmanship
-flimsy detachable strap
-not enough room for additional camera accessories (e.g. charger, etc.)
-colors may not be as shown (the green was darker than indicated)
