OK, here's the deal.I bought the LG Dare cellphone. In California, you need hands-free.I have blue-tooth, but when driving you need to see the phone, i.e., have the screen accessible.I bought the Gomadic TipExchange in hopes of a solution.Let me say, I've had mixed success in the past with items that are supposed to stick by suction cup on the windshield. They fall off under the glare of the hot CA sun.The Gomadic was a pleasant surprise. The engineering is sound. The suction cup really sucks. It presents the LG Dare right in my face so that I can see the screen, and it's mounted so that it's out of my field of vision. My only hesitation is whether it's legal in California.I know California and I think Minnesota have laws against GPS being mounted on the windshield.I haven't bothered to check if this applies to cellphones, too.But probably so.But I wouldn't use it if I thought it presented any kind of hazard.
An alternative would be to obtain a "shoe" of flat plastic and mount it atop the dashboard. This would be legal, but would result in greater blockage of the my view roadway! As they say in Latin, Lex dura, lex se.(The law is hard, but the law is the law.)
Anyhow I will continue to use the Gomadic, until the CHP or other law enforcement tells me to cease and desist.
