Uniden DECT4066 DECT 6.0 2-Line Cordless Phone System With Three 6.0 Cordless Accessory Phone Handsets Review

Uniden DECT4066 DECT 6.0 2-Line Cordless Phone System With Three 6.0 Cordless Accessory Phone HandsetsWe recently had an old AT&T cordless die.One of the features I loved about that phone was it's great color display on the hand sets, very easy to read in all condition.sHowever, this time around I wanted a phone that supported two lines.We use the Ooma VOIP phone service (premium version) and I did not want an answering machine.Your options for a phone of this nature are pretty limited, but I liked the looks of this model and the reviews on similar models are pretty good so I went with it.First the good:

- The hands sets are small and good looking and so far we have had no problems with reception anywhere in our house (the AT&T was top rated in it's time, but had problems reaching some parts of the house);

- The system more-or-less has all the features we wanted.You can call the VOIP voice mail from any handset, but you have to set up each hand set separately even though the concept of global settings is supported by the system.

- The price for the system was the best we could find for 4 two line hand sets.

- The system is mostly intuitive to use, the auto selection for the two lines is about as fool proof as you can expect for such a system.Basically, our pre-teen can spend an hour on the phone and we can still pick up incoming calls and make outgoing calls without having to give anything a second thought.

Now the not so good:

- The hand set display is pretty bad.It's hard to read and playing with the contrast settings seems to make no difference.Fix this one issue and I'd give this phone 5 stars, and truthfully, I should probably only deduct half a star (but you can't do that here).

- Setup is a little confusing.In particular, the way you make choices in the menus, but I would not deduct points for this since it's mostly a one time thing

For anyone considering using this with the Ooma service... We use the older Ooma hub and Scout since we need to place the main unit far from where we'd actually want an answering machine.The Scout then sits in the kitchen and feeds the Uniden reviewed here. Given the support for four handsets and voice mail on the Uniden we could now use the Ooma Telo, but I don't see any reason to spend the money at this point in time. Using the hub and Scout, to get a second line to the Uniden, we had to also run a connection from the line out on the Ooma hub (not the one that feeds the Scout) to the phone system. Essentially, one line comes from the Scout and one from the Hub.
