Cingular Go Phone: JBL On Tour Mobile Portable Speaker System for Motorola Phones Review

I reviewed these speakers nearly two years ago (the same speakers without the Mobile Phone accessory). They were only available for a long time from a couple of rip-off, third party vendors who were trying to sell them for 199 bucks. I really like them (please read my first review) and I'm happy to see them back at a reasonable price. They are versatile, have a descent range and provide good volume for the size. I use two sets of them for my laptop (see first review) and take them on the road with me to use with my MP3, CD and portable DVD/TV players. In my opinion, they can't be beat for the price.

The JBL On Tour features easy-to-use touch controls. Just a touch increases or decrease the volume, while a touch on both pads mutes or un-mutes the system. The unit also remembers your last volume setting even after the system shuts down. Meanwhile, the sliding cover protects your sound system and serves as a stand when open. The surface gripping rubber feet provide a stable platform on most surfaces, and a universal AC adapter allows for easy worldwide use.
Combining many proprietary technologies to provide the highest quality sound and playing time, the JBL On Tour will provide astonishing bass and clear, accurate sound from a pocket sized system. Class D digital amplifiers provide clean, powerful sound while extending battery life, while two aluminum-domed Odyssey transducers are driven by powerful neodymium magnets. This design provides a full rich frequency response from the lowest bass to the highest highs. Additionally, the JBL On Tour system equalization has been computer optimized to provide a rich, complete sound stage.
An automatic battery saving shutoff system will automatically put the JBL On Tour into sleep mode when the cover is closed or when there is no audio input. The unit awakens with just a touch and resumes at the same volume level when the cover is opened or the input resumes. The unit is designed to use most types of AAA batteries. Four fresh AAA batteries provide over 24 hours of continuous play at normal to high listening levels. An amber LED flashes when the battery protection circuit senses the batteries are low. JBL encourages the use of rechargeable types of batteries (i.e. NiMH and Lithium), as these batteries reduce waste and help the environment.
