SanDisk 128 MB TransFlash Memory Card Review

Recently I picked up the Motorola V710 (verizon) phone that is compatable with this memory card. The Transflash card used to be called T-Flash and was for some reason renamed. In the package an included transflash to SD memory adapter allows you to connect to a SD compatable memory reader for a PC through a USB 2.0 interface.

The first thing that struck me as amazing is the size of the transflash memory.120mb in a little device that I can barely keep hold of in two fingers. It tucks away neatly into the transflash memory port on the Motorola V710 unnoticed. This is one of the first phones to feature a built in 1.2 megapixel camera, mp3 player and video camera, so the need for expanded storage is a must.

I purchased a cheap SD memory reader and plugged the transflash card to the SD adapter and it immediately read as a removable storage drive on my Windows XP based computer. One problem I did have was files kept getting corrupted when I tried to read them on the phone.I fixed this by formatting the card (just like formatting a built in hard drive). Not sure if this was a problem of how the phone formatted the memory when it built all the default directories or if it was the reader or card itself. But the format fixed it with no further issues.

Micro SD Adapter Review

Purchased this when I lost the one that came with my phone. At first my laptop didn't recognize it, but then I realized that the switch on the side was in the locked position. Once I took care of that it was smooth sailing from there. No problems since. Transfer rate's a little slow, but it's about the same as a regular SD card as well as my old micro SD adapter, so it's just wishful thinking and shouldn't be counted against this one.

Kingmax 8GB MicroSDHC Class 10 High Performance Flash Memory Card 8 GB - Retail Package Review

I was a bit skeptical at first as I've never heard of KingMax and this was the only Class 10 card I could find.I bought this to replace my Class 2 Sandisk 16GB card to be used in a Nook. SanDisk 16 GB Class 2 microSDHC Flash Memory Card SDSDQ-016G (Bulk Packaging)

As it turns out, this was fast but not faster than my Sandisk card.I was only able to test read speeds with HD Tune even though both cards were freshly formatted with the same allocation size, and this card showed a constant 18MB/s whereas my Sandisk (class 2) showed 20MB/s (yes 20, not 2 - and MBytes/s not Mbits/s).I ended up keeping the Sandisk card as it was the same price, a bit faster, and double the size.

SanDisk - Flash memory card - 16 GB - Class 2 - microSDHC Review

Though I wish I had waited a couple of weeks to buy this card (the price dropped 30 dollars in the past two weeks), I have nothing but good things to say about the card. Easy to load, easy to read. I managed to put about 11 gigs on here in the first three days (lots of music) and the access has been flawless. Word of caution, be careful with the card reader. My first attempt led to a corrupted card which I had to return. May have been a manufacturing defect (bought from best buy, not from Amazon. Best buy charged 99.00). I reccomend loading the card in the device before adding data rather than using the reader and then inserting loaded card.

All in all, a miracle of storage on a tiny card. I eagerly await the 32 gb in a year or two.
