EGO TALK Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit Review

I purchased a Ego Talk Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit from Amazon and then found an adapter on another online site for my 2007 F-150 Lariat.WOW!That one word says it all.It took me all of about 30 minutes to install in the parking lot of a shopping mall where I went in and bought a really cheap pair of pliers simply because I couldn't wait to get home to install it. Sounds awesome, connects painlessly.Really can't tell the sound quality difference from one of the newer built in Ford Sync Systems and the unit is very small and unobtrusive.As I said above I purchased a special wire adapter which meant that it was absolutely plug & play with no wiring to solder, cut etc.Just unplugged the old radio and plugged this in.I'm warning you though it will scare the crud out of you the first time you're driving down the road with the radio off and this thing starts talking to you telling you whatever reminders your PDA is reminding you of, or what Important Emails just came in!

Motorola Deluxe Bluetooth Car Kit HF850 - Bluetooth hands-free car kit Review

Due to the new California hands-free requirement, I was forced to get something that works hands-free with my car ('99 Chrysler LHS).I first bought a Garmin Nuvi 760 but the fact that this makes my car a target for theft is not desirable.I could hide the GPS every time when leaving the car but that would be a real pain.So I decided on this unit, which hopefully won't be a desirable thing for anyone to steal.

Overall the Motorola HF850 is probably a good unit.It comes with a microphone and speaker.Only 3 wires need to be connected, two power and one ground.A fourth wire is useful if your vehicle allows the use of a mute wire (mutes stereo when a call comes through).For best voice pickup I placed the microphone at the top of the column by the window. In most cases the molding covering this column just snaps on and off.The speaker would be too quiet if placed behind too much stuff (or the dash) so you want it fairly exposed.

Power connection is fairly easy.I used T-splices (not sure of what they are called) to connect the ground and power wires.I used a pink line (I think Chrysler's are always pink) for the source of constant power and a black for ground.I tried to locate a Start/Run ignition power line, which will cut the unit off when the car is turned off only if a call is not in progress (will leave power to the unit if a call is in progress).I kind of gave up finding a Start/Run wire (dash wires were really tightly rapped and a lot of them).I just picked a wire that lead to something that switched off with the ignition. I think it was a slow power fade (dimmed lights before going out) but it does not matter that much because it's just a sense line which doesn't need a serious power line.

After installation I noticed it beeps each time it bluetooth connects to the cell phone.Not a huge issue but a little annoying.What's really annoying are the required button procedures for holding call to pick up another, dropping a held call, or disconnecting from the HF850 so you can walk off using the cell phone on the current call.For most phones you press the Send button (HF850 calls it "Voice" button) to make calls then possibly press Voice again to "flash" over to an incoming call and hold the current one. Instead, the HF850 requires you press the large blue middle button (HF850 calls it "Multi-use") for 3 seconds.If you don't press it long enough you'll drop the holding call and just pickup the incoming call. Ridicules, huh?You would think to hold and answer would require the quick press, not the long press.But that's Motorola.They have never been the UI (user interfaces) leaders, or even good followers.To transfer a call from the car to the cell phone (so you can leave the car) requires you to press the Voice button for 3 seconds to disconnect the HF850 from the cell.Because the unit doesn't have a display screen most of the functions on your phone can not be used so why bother with the large button AND the send button?Just one button would make remembering which one to press and for how long much easier.But, if you can keep these, admitted few, steps in mind than this unit should make a fairly easy and cheap (I got mine for $90 here) alternative.

This made installing a Parrot Bluetooth device absolutely mindless in my 2009 Honda Fit w/Navigation.This attaches to the audio system and then the Parrot attaches to this.It leaves the radio working as before, but now you can hear calls through your radio speakers and it automatically silences your audio system during calls.The hardest thing was being willing to tug hard enough to pull the dash apart to get behind the radio for access to the wiring.I bought a plastic trim removal kit for this (Actron CP5011 Panel, Trim and Molding Removal Set), but it still required a lot of tugging. There is one bolt below the dash that needs removal before pulling the dash apart, but there are online documents that show you where that is.Check the [...] site.No surgery (splicing wires) or additional wires to attach.This is less costly, more integrated, and easier to install than the Honda provided Bluetooth solution that doesn't even integrate with the car's audio system.This harness is quite long and bulky, but there is room for it between the audio system and glove box.If you want to move the Parrot to a different car, or suffer a failure to your Honda that requires warranty service, you can remove this harness and the Parrot Bluetooth device without leaving a trace.

Nokia Advanced Car Kit Review

I have had this car kit for a while now and the functionality is amazing. The data cable comes in handy for your Nokia phone and charges as well as connects. Using Bluetooth, you can connnect to any Bluetooth compatible phone. The remote is a small wheel with button center and measures about an inch across so you can mount it anywhere, including under the steering column (which I did with velcro, included in the kit.) This way it is out of the way and invisible to those prying eyes looking for anything to set your car apart as a target for thievery. The microphone is the only other visible piece and it hides nicely away near the visor. I don't know about anyone else out there, but I have nearly been in several wrecks both in my car and on my motorcycle that I beleive could have been avoided by using a handsfree device such as this. Handsfree is the law in certain states, mine is not one of them, but if you don't get a handsfree for you do it for someone else!

Motorola HF820 Easy-Install Bluetooth Car Kit [Motorola Retail Packaging] Review

Works very well, I haven't had any problems with connectivity, voice dialing, volume, sensitivity, etc.I've used it in rush-hour driving, and it's quite usable despite the background noise.(Quite useful if you need to have a conference call from your car!)Battery life is fine as well.

On the downside, the sound is a bit tinny (metallic, thin, and harsh).But perhaps that's what you get for the price.And I do find it annoying that it takes a different kind of charger tip from my Razr, and Moto includes only the car charger with this package.

(Perhaps some day the manufacturers will figure out that they don't really gain anything by having all these variant charger interfaces, and will standardize on one?Nah.)

Update Sep18, 2007:
I've occasionally experienced some problems with this item in the time I've had it, thought this info might be useful if you're considering buying this.

One problem is an occasional "hang" when dialing -- you make a voice dial call, the phone says the name so you know it got the right number, but then nothing happens.Usually you give it a puzzled look after a few seconds, disconnect and try again, and everything works fine.

Sometimes however it's a real hang -- the phone's waiting for the device, the device is waiting for the phone (probably some piece of the bluetooth protocol got dropped on the floor), and you can't disconnect, you can't power the device down, nothing.You have to get your phone out and disconnect the device from the bluetooth menu, then recycle the power on the device, then you can proceed again.I haven't figured out why this happens, or a surefire way to prevent it.Doesn't happen a lot, but it shouldn't happen at all, right?

I finally installed a hard wired bluetooth hands free system in my car after using an earpiece for months/years.The MKi9200 is OUTSTANDING; I wish I had installed one a long time ago.The installation for my 2006 Trailblazer required a wiring harness from one of the Parrot vendors listed on their website which costs an extra $75.Regardless, the voice recognition feature is perfect and the radio mute feature works seamlessly with my factory stereo.The calls are crystal clear and everyone can hear me without any difficulties.I found the installation fairly easy and would recommend this product to anyone who is tired of charging, turning on/off, and finding, your blue tooth ear piece.

The Parrot CK3200 is an excellent bluetooth device for your car or truck.However, this item is manufactured in Europe where all vehicles come equipped with ISO connectors on all sound systems.If you are intending to install this item in a vehicle sold in the U.S., you will need ISO adapters.My 2004 Chevrolet Pickup with the Bose Sound system required two adapters at 20 dollars each.The install was 50 dollars on top of that.I still like the system, but want to make sure all buyers are aware of this fact.If you have questions, contact a local stereo installer and they will tell you if they have the adapters needed.
